Thisremarkable picture proves who the most feared predator underwater is as hundreds of fish make way for sharks as they swim past. Wherever the sharks swim in these shallow waters they are guaranteed a clear path as terrified fish move out of their way. The blacktip reef and lemon sharks aren't even attempting to eat, but the petrified fish don't want to risk becoming the dinner of the feared predator. Software engineer Scott Carr was looking for a picturesque spot for bridal pictures before his wedding when he came across the school of fish trying to avoid the sharks. He headed to a jetty on Heron Island in Queensland, Australia, and spotted the remarkable sight in the shallow water underneath it. (Rex Features)

Thousands of birds flee for their lives as a glacial cave begins to collapse and a huge chunk of ice plummets into the sea. The massive flock of birds scattered as the ice cave they were in began to fall apart around them. The group of black-legged kittiwakes, northern fulmars and glaucous gulls were in the ice cavern to feed in the waters around the glacier. Mike Reyfman was on a boat photographing the birds when he captured the dramatic moment part of the glacier began to crumble on top of the birds. But this was in fact exactly what the birds were hoping for. Known as calving, this is when chunks of ice break away from the glacier. As the massive amounts of ice drop into the water bellow, the fish who live in the sea are disturbed and float up to the surface. This then makes them easy pickings for the waiting birds who use opportunities like this to hunt their prey. (Rex Features)

Chile's Calbuco volcano erupted on Wednesday, spewing a giant funnel of ash high into the sky near the southern port city of Puerto Montt and triggering a red alert. Authorities ordered an evacuation for a 10-kilometer (six-mile) radius around the volcano, which is the second in southern Chile to have a substantial eruption since March 3, when the Villarrica volcano emitted a brief but fiery burst of ash and lava.
