An artist has created a series of incredibly realistic models of birds out of wood and paper. Nature-lover Zack Mclaughlin's spectacular hand-crafted sculptures are so life-like they could easily be mistaken for real birds. He creates 3D birds of all shapes and sizes out of paper and wood - then spends up to two days carefully painting them in stunning colours. Zack, 31, has made robins, magpies, hummingbirds and a wide range of other birds - but his most time-consuming creation, an owl, took him a staggering 160 hours. The model maker, who also works as a children's book illustrator, loves nature and draws his inspiration from the animals and plants he sees. Zack, who lives in Shoreditch, London, first started his 3D creations when he made a lantern to help visualise part of a story he was developing for a children's book. (Solent News/REX_Shutterstock)
