Photographer Einar Runar Sigurdsson was warmed by the sun's rays, which crept into the cave on one of Europe's biggest glaciers, while he even lit a fire inside. Meanwhile, with temperatures above freezing he was able to take pictures of a cascading waterfall. Icicles in the caves ranged in size, with Einar snapping one icicle measuring 1.5 metres (4ft 9ins) long. Despite the abundance of ice, the 46-year-old said it was warmer in the caves than outside with temperatures ranging from -5 degrees Celsius to five degrees Celsius. This year one of the ice caves on the south side of the Vatnajokull glacier, in Iceland, has become 10 metres thinner on top and lost 30-40 metres of ice from its outside walls. (Rex Features)
